Draft: This documentation is a work in progress (even moreso than usual)
A host is the closest thing to the old ipreg "box" as created in "single_ops"
While it is possible to create a new host from the DNS zone we recommend creating it from the IP Space side.
- Navigate to the network where you want to create the host
- Either select a free address, or choose "Find first unassigned address" from the gear menu at the top of the address list.
- In the "Assign selected IP Addresses form:
- If no DHCP at all will be used choose static, otherwise choose DHCP reserved
- If DHCP is in use enter a MAC address
- Enter the full name for the host
- Leave "create a reverse record" ticked unless you have a reason not to
- Optionally select a location from the list (at present this is not very useful, see user defined fields below)
- Check the applicable addresses is correct
- Leave "views," "standalone PTR records", "Additional Information" "IP Address Assignment" and "device" alone
- Optionally enter a change comment
- Once the host has been created it should show in the IP address list. If you click on the name you can view the DNS entry which was created and edit it in order to add some useful metadata such as location, owner, parent, purpose, review date, sysadmin, user
